EC 03 Wrap-up
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT EVENT THIS YEAR!!!!
I heard lots of positive feedback about the ClifBars, ClifShots, HammerGel, and Endurolytes - and testimonials about how the products helped riders perform better than expected!!! I am sure that the sponsors would appreciate hearing from you. And as a race organizer who is dependent on sponsorships, I would greatly appreciate you thanking them!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE VERY POSITIVE COMMENTS FROM EC 2003. The finish line resuscitation crew definitely appreciated all your positive feedback AND WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR. As volunteers this is the only payment they received and you all paid them well!!

Marie and Andy Boyd came up with a gold mine for riders at the finish line both days.
I had no idea the burritos, soup, and sandwiches would be such a hit.

Sorry to the few riders who claim they didn't see ALL the notices about the cut-off times and got to the aid stations after they closed. Due to heat and consideration to the volunteers' time, the aid stations will NOT be open longer next year. But we will have an organized group departure option at 5 A.M. next year for the tourist/non-competitive group.
This has been by far the most elite field. 2003 marks the first year with more than a 50% completion rate. We had 80 less riders than in 2002 and yet almost exactly the same number finished! We had far fewer riders who showed up totally unprepared for a ride this hard. And far fewer riders that raced the first climb like it was a criterium (although there were a few Masters riders that sure tried to blow everybody to shreads the first climb).
Last year there were three riders who won their fields but hadn't finished in 2001. This year three national class cyclists that didn't finish in 2002 won the CA/NV State Climbing Championships in their divisions: Gregory Drake, Lindsay Blount, and Louie Amelburu.
Congratulations to:
John Janisse, who didn't finish in 2002, but won the Public division in 2003;
those riders who didn't finish in 2002 and came back and finished in 2003
(Ron Castia, Jeff Landauer, Adrian Olsen);
three time finishers: Chris Walker, Abraham Taylor, Mark Weidermann, and Tom Reid.

Three-peater Abraham Taylor, Sierra Nevada/ClifBar - "OH MAN!!! What have I done?"
Finished on the first place ClifBar team in the mixed division.
